MAGHRENOV at the European Parliament 2

8th of September (12:30 - 17:00) - European Parliament, Brussels

2016 will be a key year for the climate and energy and for the collaboration between Europe and the Maghreb region. After the agreements achieved during the COP 21 in Paris, the COP 22 will take place in Morocco next November. Time is now to implementation and investment to make commitments of a huge majority of nations a reality. Renewable Energy is expected to play a key role in this phase and should bring out a significant flow of innovations.

After three years of implementation, the MAGHRENOV consortium wants to showcase the results achieved to foster innovation in the field of sustainable energy and integration across the Euro-Mediterranean region.

The International Conference, held in Marseille on 11-12 February 2016 was a key event to put on the political agenda the opportunities that the energy field offers for the sustainability on both sides of the Mediterranean Sea. Co-created innovative solutions were demonstrated while contributing to the establishment of an integrated Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Space (EMIS).

The MAGHRENOV Project will hold its last dissemination event at the European Parliament on Thursday 8th of September 2016, hosted by M. Antonio Panzeri, Chair of the Delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union.

A first session dedicated to “Innovation as a game changer in the Southern Mediterranean”, an institutional-oriented debate will analyse the state of the political framework to further integrate both regions when it comes to the sustainable energy sector. Extending experience gained by MAGHRENOV and its companion ‘R2I’ projects findings, a second session, more technical, will draw valuable recommendations on how to enhance the cooperation across the Euro-Mediterranean region in the sustainable energy field. In conclusion, a discussion on a knowledge-based Public-Private Partnership to structure EMIS integration will allow an open and operational debate with 50 experts and high-level decision makers.

The issue is now for Euro-Mediterranean countries in the field of sustainable energy, to transform the collaborative area into an integrated innovation system or namely, to shift from a space to a system, ‘from EMIS to EMIS’.
