Press release // IRESEN and InnoEnergy's cooperation at COP22

Brussels, 22 November 2016

On the 15th of November 2016, the Research Institute for Solar Energy and New Energies (IRESEN) and InnoEnergy has hosted a joint side-event on “Sustainable Energy Innovation and Co-Development: the regional Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) solution”.

This event aimed at examining how the EU-developed model of PPP, and more specifically the one promoted by InnoEnergy, could be adapted to innovative partnership between developed and developing countries and how this could be organised regionally. As an illustration of this co-development, the outcomes of the Maghrenov project, funded by the FP7 EU Program in the field of innovation and capacity building in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, has been highlighted.

In order to discuss this topic, we had the honor to welcome Badr Ikken, Director General of IRESEN, Silvia Pariente David, Energy senior advisor for the Center for Mediterranean Integration and World Bank advisor, Pradeep Monga, Director on Energy and Environment at UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Diego Pavia, CEO of InnoEnergy.

Following the discussions of this side-event, IRESEN and InnoEnergy has signed, under the auspices of Patrick Child, Deputy Director General of DG RTD of the European Commission, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further structure their collaboration along three action lines: operational activities, capacity building and joint strategic initiatives.

After the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding, Claude Ayache, Badr Ikken, Patrick Child and Diego Pavia had the chance to continue their exchanges on the IRESEN’s booth in the COP village, and took the opportunity to discover the first-of-a-kind project called “Green Energy Park” developed in the Moroccan city of BenGuerir, which was displayed as 3D model on the IRESEN booth.

About InnoEnergy

InnoEnergy is the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe.

The challenge is big, but our goal is simple: to achieve a sustainable energy future for Europe. Innovation is the solution. New ideas, products and services that make a real difference, new businesses and new people to deliver them to market.

At InnoEnergy, we support and invest in innovation at every stage of the journey – from classroom to end-customer. With our network of partners, we build connections across Europe, bringing together inventors and industry, graduates and employers, researchers and entrepreneurs, businesses and markets.

We work in three essential areas of the innovation mix:

• Education to help create an informed and ambitious workforce that understands the demands of sustainability and the needs of industry.

• Innovation Projects to bring together ideas, inventors and industry to create commercially attractive technologies that deliver real results to customers.

• Business Creation Services to support entrepreneurs and start-ups who are expanding Europe’s energy ecosystem with their innovative offerings.

Bringing these disciplines together maximises the impact of each, accelerates the development of market-ready solutions, and creates a fertile environment in which we can sell the innovative results of our work.
